As many of you know, the holiday season is a critical time for game publishers. If their game doesn’t sell well during this time then it may not get greenlit for a sequel. On the other hand, major publishers will release their staples at this time to bolster sales even more and try to eliminate their competitors. Some games get pushed ahead or back to avoid some of these blockbuster titles release dates. Some major releases this fall are Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3 ODST, Assassins Creed 2, (controversially) Left 4 Dead 2, and Mass Effect 2. unfortunately Bioshock2 was pushed back to early 2010. These are major releases this holiday season. There will be a few sleepers that creep in here and there but these are the major players. Chances are these games will sell millions of copies the first week. Halo 3 ODST will undoubtedly sell millions on release day. If you don’t have a reserve on these today then you will probably want to do it soon. Gamestop will most likely claim to have sold out of them just to keep the wait-list going and to try and convince gamers to preorder in the future so it is just easier to do it now and save yourself the hassle.

Alternatively, this is also the time when you can pick up their predecessors for a relatively cheap price so if you were holding out, now would be the time to pick them up. Ultimately you lose the multiplayer aspect since most players will jump to the new games servers essentially abandoning the old game. There are a few exceptions like Left 4 Dead where some will continue to play the previous version and Halo 3 may be integrated into ODST’s multiplayer servers combining the 2 games into one since they use someof the same maps (this is merely speculation on my part though).

So there are my holiday blockbuster titles that I believe every gamer will be asking for this holiday season. Once again this is Chimera 1 bringing you my views into our virtual worlds!!
